Fidelity VIP Investor Freedom® Fund Portfolios

You choose your retirement year. We choose the investments.

The VIP Investor Freedom® Fund Portfolios1 are lifecycle or target-date funds, offering a diversified mix of Fidelity VIP funds in a single investment. Fidelity’s investment professionals set the asset allocation strategy for each portfolio to adjust periodically and become more conservative as the fund approaches its target date. You select a portfolio whose target date is closest to your expected year of retirement. Except for Fidelity VIP Investor Freedom Income, each portfolio’s asset allocation strategy becomes increasingly conservative as it approaches the target date and beyond, until it ultimately merges with Fidelity VIP Investor Freedom Income. Principal invested is not guaranteed at any time, including at or after the portfolio's target date.

Customer questions

What are the benefits of choosing a VIP Investor Freedom Fund Portfolio in my annuity?
Choosing a VIP Investor Freedom Fund Portfolio shifts the asset allocation selection and rolldown management to Fidelity’s fund managers and analysts who have managed these funds through multiple market cycles since the 1990's. You can be confident that you have a diversified2 approach to saving and investing for your retirement and that your asset mix is targeted to the target retirement date.
How will my fund’s asset allocation change over time?
Our unique asset allocation rolldown technique strives to maximize returns during accumulation years and minimize downside risk as you approach and live in retirement. As the target date approaches, the managers will adjust the allocation to a more conservative mix of bonds, stocks and short-term investments.

Principal value and investment returns of a variable annuity will fluctuate and you may have a gain or loss when money is withdrawn.
